Looking back, it's kinda funny. In that moment, I thought it'd be forever. But nothing's forever, is it?

Nothing ever lasts.

We didn't care about rules, about what we were supposed to do. We were just... us. And I find myself wishing every day for what could've been: A present with you still here.

I miss you, you know. But you probably don't know that, actually. You'd never read this.

"We are the kids from yesterday."

Maybe that's all we were—just the past. Maybe that's all we were meant to be, two people just passing by, together for a while but eventually moving on.

I can hear the music sometimes, playing in my head; the simple songs we'd send to each other to make the other smile: The upbeat tunes and the sad ones, the ones with encouraging lyrics and the ones that just sounded nice.

"I'll find you when the sun goes black."

But that's a long time in the making, the sun's still bright, and so for now I wonder if I'll find you again in this lifetime. If I had the stomach to reach out, if I had the courage to say that I didn't mean forever, that I didn't mean what I'd said...

But I don't. I think of you every day but I can't do it, I can't admit I was wrong. I can't think of it as safe or healthy or advisable. Yet, I don't think it'd be a mistake either.

I miss you.

"You only hear the music when your heart begins to break. Now, we are the kids from yesterday."

I miss you. And I can't move on, but we were the kids from yesterday, not the present. And I look back and I wish things were different but I won't get you back, I can't. It's not in the cards for me. And I wish it was, but it's not.

But I still wish you were reading this. I'm sorry things went the way they did.
