An Intro To "The Music That Got Me Through"

Over the next who-knows-how-long, I've decided I'm going to share with y'all some songs that got me through some really hard times. This suggestion came from one of my friends (she actually just suggested that I share some music recommendations) and I figured, what better thing to tie music and mental health together than share some of the songs that have gotten me through some hard times.

I'll most likely be going one song at a time, because I'm going to be sharing "short stories/flash fiction" of my memories. The general formatting will most likely be something like this (if you don't care, you can skip over it haha):

Song Title, Artist

Estimated Time of Memory: __

Genre: __

Potential Triggers: __

Favorite Song Lyric: __

Some memories don't quite line up with the song they'll be with, but that's how I work. My emotions don't always match up to what I'm listening to. I could be laughing while listening to a dark song and I could be crying while listening to a happy song. Oftentimes, the internal won't match up with the external, but I want to share both aspects of what I'm going through at these times all the same.

These songs aren't going to be my favorite songs, but they're all lovely songs that I revisit time and time again.

A lot of the songs will most likely have a trigger list. Some triggers might not bother certain people but really bother others, so on behalf of those who it might trigger or who simply don't want to listen to a song with that kind of content in it, I've included those.

The genres are mostly just my best guess at the genre of the song, so if it seems a bit off, that's why. I'm not a music expert, that's for sure.

All in all, each of these songs have played a huge part in getting me to where I am, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Some got me through emotions that felt like they would drown me. They’ve made me cry and they’ve helped me hold back my tears. It depends on the day and the moment, but each of these means a lot to me.

I'd love to know if any of you tried these songs and what you thought of them!

(And for those of you who are on Spotify, the following link is where I'm going to be collecting the songs as I post them. I would not recommend just hitting the play button—there's going to be a lot of different genres and topic matters—but for ease of access, that's where the compiled list will be.)
