Upon a Mountain Castle

(Written July 2022)

Upon a mountain

Castle tall

Stands a figure

By the wall

Breeze brushes

Across their back

Eyes wide open

"Let them attack."

Courage keeps them

Still they bear

Silence passes

Brushing bare

Stones hold memories

Of attacks

Such as things

it doesn't want back

There the walls stand

Overseeing grounds

Full of merry bands

Of workers, of children

There's toil and play

The figure stands there

Day after day

"Let them come after me." "Please let them in."

Fearless they stand

With wisdom within

You can trust your walls

You can love around them

Keep them up but

Welcome despite

All the imposing stone

You are underneath

And they are outside

Waiting, waiting,

So upon your mountain

In your castle, tall

Stands your figure

By the wall

The breeze gently nudges

At your back

Will you open yourself

Up for attack?
